An unstoppable feast....

We had one of our first official meetings about the feast farm on Friday and it went really well.
The best part was how many great ideas and how much enthusiasm everyone had. We broke in to smaller groups to make concrete steps toward breaking the dirt.
One group is talking to Oxy facilities about possible partnerships in that department. Another is learning what it takes to be an organic garden and what we want to plant in the first month. We have people working on grants and Alexina and I made some fliers and sign up sheets for club day. Beyond the people who are helping to launch F.E.A.S.T I have talked to so many students who can't wait to be a part of it. With so much energy and interest it boggles my mind that a farm doesn't already exist on campus.

Sustainability fund

Today was the first day of Environmental Problem Solving-- a two unit course dedicated to finding solutions to environmental issues on campus. Some of the ideas are obvious. For example, we could stop watering the cement on campus...One of the on-going projects we will work on is drafting a letter to the new president about the shame associated with having a C- ranking on sustainability issues.
Luckily, Oxy recently created the Sustainability Fund-- a fund that students can donate $20 to every semester specifically for environmental projects on campus. F.E.A.S.T is looking to apply for money from the fund. The main draw-back is that students have to go on the Oxy website and find the form themselves to donate every semester and only 25% of students took the initiative last semester.
Let's make the form more obvious to students so that we can improve our ranking and make Oxy's green policies reflect how green Oxy students want the campus to be.

The Beginning

Welcome to F.E.A.S.T.,

We're a club at Occidental college dedicated to sustainability, gastronomy, and food awareness. We have a number of ambitions for this semester. First and foremost we are excited to establish a garden on campus. While the garden is our main objective for the time being, there are a number of other projects we look forward to executing. We will have a table at club day, please come by and join our movement.

The Team
